Join the SwePass Open Project Meeting on 8 October
What is happening in the Digital Product Passport landscape right now? On 8 October, the SwePass Open Project Meeting brings together experts, industry representatives and project partners to discuss standards, legislation, product data and practical DPP implementation.
The meeting takes place online from 13:00 to 16:00 CET and is open to anyone interested in Digital Product Passports, traceability and data sharing across value chains. The programme combines European perspectives with practical examples from industry and ongoing work within SwePass.
Carolynn Bernier on standards and semantic interoperability
One of the guest speakers is Carolynn Bernier, research engineer and coordinator of CIRPASS and CIRPASS-2. CIRPASS-2 focuses on large-scale DPP piloting across several sectors. Carolynn will talk about the fast-moving standards landscape and why semantic interoperability matters for Digital Product Passports. CIRPASS-2 is following DPP-related standardisation activities around the world, and Carolynn also leads the DPP vocabulary task force within the W3C Verifiable Credentials Working Group.
– Semantic interoperability makes it possible to share data in open networks while conserving its meaning and without introducing ambiguity. This is fundamental to DPPs, which are by definition shared in open networks, says Carolynn Bernier.
For her, one of the main points is that DPPs need to work beyond individual companies, systems and sectors.
– My hope is that participants will understand that DPPs are open and global data-sharing networks and therefore have a fundamental need for semantic interoperability. There are also different ways to create semantic interoperability, each with different pros and cons.
From regulation to real data
The rest of the programme looks at several parts of DPP development and implementation. Staffan Olsson, GS1 Sweden, will discuss future European product legislation and DPPs. Jörgen Ekblad, QCM, together with ARAS, will demonstrate the use of real supplier data, while Petri Loumala, RISE, will focus on semantic data readiness for industrial collaboration.
The programme also includes Fredrik Jonsson, NorDan AB, on environmental and digital product information, and a data flow showcase with Johan Toll, Traced Systems, and Maria Jemth, SML. Mikael Lindecrantz, Ragn-Sells, will talk about the value of a common language in the construction industry, while Sophie Charpentier, Chalmers Industriteknik, will share an update from the Knowledge & Education work within SwePass.
The Open Project Meeting is a chance to hear what is happening in SwePass and the wider DPP landscape, see practical examples and join the discussion about what comes next.
